Bruce Latimer was born in Sydney in 1951. He completed a Diploma of Fine Arts (Painting) at the National Art School in 1973 and a Diploma of Education at Sydney Teachers College, Sydney in 1974. He was awarded the National Art School Student Union Prize in 1970 and 1971. He taught at secondary level in 1975-76 and then lived and worked in New York in the 1970s and 1980s. He returned to Australia in 1991 and since then he has been a lecturer in printmaking at National Art School, Sydney and the College of Fine Arts, University of New South Wales. A painter and printmaker, he has held solo exhibitions in Sydney, Brisbane, Canberra and New York since 1974 and his work has been included in group exhibitions throughout Australia and in the United States and China. He has lectured at the National Art School and the College of Fine Arts since the 1990’s.
We have records of art auction sales by Bruce Latimer from 1995 and in total 15 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 11 (73%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $1,166 for Garden Full of Dogs sold by Shapiro Auctioneers in February 2022. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2023. Works by Bruce Latimer are held by the National Gallery of Australia, Art Gallery of NSW and a further four major public national galleries (see list below).
