About Mervyn Smith
Born in Sydney in 1904, Mervyn Smith studied at Newcastle Technical College and the South Australian School of Arts. An architect and artitist, he is best known as a watercolourist with subjects including landscapes and still lifes. Between 1947 to the late 1980s he held about 22 solo exhibitions, and was included in a number of group exhibitions. He spent his later years in Adelaide.
The total number of works by Mervyn Smith offered for sale by auction since 1982 is 232, of which 136 (59%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $4,370 for Coastal Scene, Green Bay sold by Elder Fine Art in May 2011. This year 8 works have been offered for sale.
