Born in Melbourne in 1947, Durrant studied economics at Monash University before turning to art. He has held several exhibitions in Melbourne and Sydney since 1970. He has come to public notice through well-publicised 'happenings' such as the display of a slaughtered cow at the Melbourne Gallery and a fake amputated hand. He has recently been involved in the making of a film on the Australian dingo.
