Born in England in 1894, William Bustard studied at the Scarborough School of Arts and at Battersea Park Polytechnic and won a scholarship to the Slade School of Fine Art in London. He immigrated in 1921 to Queensland, where he undertook a range of artistic assignments. Best known for his watercolours, he has designed several stained glass windows for St John's Cathedral in Brisbane, and other commissions in Newcastle and Rockhampton. He was president of the Royal Queensland Art Society in 1932 and has been active in art administration.
