Born in Victoria in 1939, Ian Burn studied at the National Gallery of Victoria School, in Europe and the USA. Here he exhibited his work, curated exhibitions, lectured, taught and wrote. Burn returned to Australia in 1977 where he continued his teaching and writing for both art journals and the general press, and also exhibited his work. Ian Burn was drowned on the southern New South Wales coast in 1993.

Since 1970 we have recorded only one work being sold at auction by this artist, which was in 1996.
