Born in South Australia in 1911, Dora Chapman studied at the South Australian School of Arts from 1936 to 1941 and in Europe. Married to the artist James Cant, she was a painter, printmaker, teacher and art critic. She was a Foundataion member of the Studio of Realist Art (SORA) was established in Sydney in 1945 She travelled in Europe in the 1950s and returned to lecture at the South Australian School of Arts from 1958 to 1969 and also worked as art critic for the Adelaide advertsier newspaper.
