Born in Sydney in 1947 Janet Laurence studied at Alexander Mackie College in Sydney, and overseas. A painter, sculptor and installation artist she has exhibited widely throughout Australia and overseas including Britain, France, Germany and Denmark, and recieved many commissions for her sculptural works. She is best known for her site-specific installations that extend from the museum or gallery space into the natural world, exploring notions of art, science, imagination, memory and loss. She has ranged across painting, sculpture, photography, installation, working with pigments and ash, scientific instruments and all manner of glass.

We have records of art auction sales by Janet Laurence from 1989 and in total 73 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 44 (60%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $22,320 for Green Space III, House Hedge, Scented Rose, Tasmania sold by Mossgreen Auctions in May 2017. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2023.
