Walter Preston was born 1777 and arrived in Sydney in 1812 as a convict artist, transported for highway robbery. His skill as an engraver were recognised and he produced works for Brown, Eyre and John Lewin. He was represented in the 1988 Touring Exhibition The Face of Australia.
