Born in Auckland in 1946, Richard Killeen studied at the Auckland University School of Fine Arts from 1964 to 1966. He became a full time painter in 1980. Some of his earlier paintings have been said to be a social commentary on Auckland's suburbia, while his later paintings are a range of shapes and images that can be arranged in any order.
Richard Killeen is one of the most prolific of the artists listed in our database, with the number of works offered for sale by auction since 1989 of 859, of which 606 (71%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $86,002 for Destruction of the Circle sold by Art+Object in November 2022. This year 19 works have been offered for sale.
