Born in New South Wales in 1890, Grace Growley studied at the Sydney Art School and in France. As one of the first Australian post-impressionist painters she exhibited in Paris in 1926. On her return to Australia she taught for a time at the Sydney Art School, and later, with Rah Fizelle, conducted Sydney's only school of modern art.
