About William Kennedy Mitchell
William Mitchell was born in Arbroath in Scotland in 1925. He arrived in Australia in 1945 after being discharged from the Royal Navy. Prior to joining the Navy he had studied at the University of Dundee Art School. In Australia he worked for some years as an illustrator and printmaker and taught drawing and composition in Sydney. He became a full time artist from 1970 creating impressionist Australian landscapes studying under Otto Kuster in 1979 then having his first one man exhibition in 1981. He is a member of St George Art Society in Sydney.
