Born in England in 1873, Harold Parker arrived in Queensland as a child. He studied at the Brisbane Technical College under John Clarke and Godfrey Rivers, and at the South London Art School. One of Australia's best known sculptors, Parker became a member of the Royal Society of British Sculptors in 1906 and a life member of the Royal Queensland Art Society. Among his best known works are the statue groups at the entrance to Australia House in London.

The highest price recorded for the artist is $57,686 for Spring Awakening sold by Christies in November 1989.
