Born in Ireland in 1886, John Horgan arrived in Western Australia where he joined the Western Australian Art Society and also began farming. He later moved to Canberra and in 1927 founded the Canberra Artists Society. Known mainly as a watercolourist, his paintings of Canberra in its infancy are valued for their historical interest.
