Michael Harrison was born in 1961 in Auckland. He studied at Elam School of Fine Arts, University of Auckland, graduating in 1985 with a bachelor's degree in fine arts, and in 1997 with a masters degree. He worked as a part-time senior tutor there from 1995 to 1998 before becoming a full-time artist. Working mainly in acrylic and watercolour on paper he creates small scale whimsical works, and held his first solo exhibition was in Auckland in 1988. Since then he has exhibited regularly at galleries throughout New Zealand and Australia. His work was included in the Wellington City Gallery biennial exhibition in 2001 and a survey show of his workNew Zealand in 2002-3. In 2004 a selection of his work was included in the 14th Sydney Biennale. Michael Harrison currently lives and works in Auckland.
