About Alfred James Daplyn
Born in England in 1844, Daplyn studied there and in France before his arrival in Australia in 1881. He was the first art instructor of the Royal Art Society School in Sydney where he taught such artists as Charles Conder and Sydney Long. His own paintings were usually landscapes of the Sydney area.
We have records of art auction sales by Alfred Daplyn from 1973 and in total 87 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 49 (56%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $31,200 for Bad News from the Bank 1884 sold by Bonhams & Goodman in November 2008.
