About Aileen Dent
Born in Echuca, Victoria in 1890, Dent studied at the National Gallery School, Melbourne under Fred McCubbin, W.B. McInnes and Bernard Hall. A member of the Victorian Artists' Society, she had several exhibitions of her still life and portrait painting, including a major retrospective exhibition at the Bloomfield Galleries in Sydney in 1974.
The total number of works by Aileen Dent offered for sale by auction since 1969 is 206, of which 139 (67%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $8,970 for 'Nude Study' sold by Elder Fine Art in May 2014. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2023. Works by Aileen Dent are held by the National Gallery of Victoria, National Portrait Gallery and a further two major public national galleries (see list below).
