Born in Leicester, England in 1898, Ella Pedersen gained a Diploma of Arts and Crafts at the Manchester College of Art on a scholarship then spent three years working as a designer for a Lancashire firm of textile printers. After arriving in Australia in 1921 she studied at Brisbane Technical College. She was a painter, illuminator, illustrator, weaver, potter, leather-worker, embroiderer, jeweller and enameller and in 1941, a founding member of Brisbane's Half Dozen Group and was its honorary secretary for 31 years. She was also a member of the Arts and Crafts Society of Queensland and showed at their annual exhibitions from 1937 to 1940.
We have records of art auction sales by Ella Pedersen from 1976 and in total 22 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 11 (50%) were sold. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2019. Works by Ella Pedersen are held by the Queensland Art Gallery.
