A Dunedin, New Zealand artist born in 1948, Grahame Sydney is a contemporary painter and printmaker, working in oils, watercolours, egg tempera, lithographs, etching and photography. He attended the University of Otago, and graduated in 1969 with a BA. After travelling to the UK and Europe in 1973/74 he returned to Dunedin and became a full time artist. He very rarely exhibits, and paints mainly on commission. In 2003 he was made an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit.
Grahame Sydney is one of the most prolific of the artists listed in our database, with the number of works offered for sale by auction since 1988 of 626, of which 442 (71%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $236,885 for Ida Valley and Cook House sold by Webb's in November 2023. This year 17 works have been offered for sale.
