Born in Sydney in 1911, Ellen Rubbo (nee Gray) studied at the Julian Ashton School and in London. A designer and painter, she worked as an advertising artist for a time. Married to Dr Sydney Rubbo, son of the artist, Dattilo Rubbo, she regularly exhibited her colourful, illustrative paintings in Melbourne.
