Henry King arrived in Australia from England in 1857, at the age of two. After schooling, he was apprenticed to a photographer, opening his own studio in Sydney in 1880. He was known mainly for his portraits, but also for landscapes which are now prized for their historic value. King won major prizes at international photographic exhibitions.
