Born in Croatia in 1949, prior to his arrival in Australia in 1971 Drago Cherina studied in Europe and England, where he was a protégé of sculptor Henry Moore. As well a sculptor, he is a printmaker and tapestry designer. He received a number of important public commisions while living in Australia before moving pemanently to Taiwan.

The highest price recorded for the artist is $9,430 for Marina sold by Goodmans Auctioneers in March 1999.
