Born in Victoria in 1946, John Spooner graduated in law in Melbourne, but became a cartoonist and illustrator for 'The Age'. He is also a printmaker and painter and held several solo exhibitions of his work from 1984. Spooner has won five Stanley Awards, two Walkley Awards for Best Illustration and Best Cartoon. His work has been the subject of several publications which he has co-authored.
