About Thora Ungar
Born in 1911, Thora Ungar studied at East Sydney Technical School and under Sydney Long and Datillo Rubbo. A painter of landscapes and portraits, she lived and painted in China for four years until 1941, and in Europe in 1975. From 1942 to 1946 Ungar worked as a commercial artist for the 'Australian Women's Weekly' and 'Sydney Morning Herald'. She has exhibited widely, winning awards for her work, especially her portraits.
