A painter and potter, Ernest Finlay studied at the J. S. Watkins School in Sydney around the turn of the twentieth century. He worked with his brother, Alan, in Moreland, Victoria, and experimented with Aboriginal and native plant motifs. They exhibited with the Arts and Crafts Society of Victoria.
