Born in Sydney in 1916, Williams studied at the East Sydney Technical College on a scholarship and at the Julian Ashton Art School. After a period away from art while she raised her family she took refresher courses and resumed her career. Principally known as a painter of terrace houses and street scenes in inner Sydney, she exhibited widely.

We have records of art auction sales by Wilmotte Williams from 1974 and in total 385 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 328 (85%) were sold.
