Born in Perth in 1905, John Brackenreg studied at the Julian Ashton School in Sydney. A painter, director of Artarmon Galleries, Sydney, and publisher of 'Australian Artist Editions' Brackenreg was also active in a number of art societies in Sydney and Perth. He was also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts in London. In 1970 he was awarded the OBE for his services to art.
