Born in Sydney in 1931, Lance McNeill studied under Graham Inson and Albert Ridge and Elisabeth Colquhoun, John Farmer and Kenneth Jack. A foundation member of the Australian Guild of Realist Artists in Victoria, he was a teacher at the Realist Art Centre in Melbourne. He has had several one man exhibitions. He was a finalist in the 1973 Art Gallery of New South Wales Archibald with study of Graham Perkin editor in chief of the Age. In 1975 he formed the McNeill Academy of Realist Artists known as MARA.
