About Heather Matthews
Born in Papatoetoe, New Zealand c1946, Heather Matthews had an international career in track and field athletics and was awarded an MBE for services to sport. On retiring from athletics, she went back to study at the age of around 58, taking on a full time fine arts degree at Whitecliffe College of Art & Design in Auckland, majoring in painting. She has worked in art related fields as a draughtsperson, display artist, set designer and interior decorator. She is passionate about colour and enjoys different genres and currently teaches adults to paint and draw from her base in Whangaparaoa, Auckland.
