Born in Hastings, New Zealand in 1919, Arthur Dagley was a self taught artist although he did undertake classes and courses with some of the prominent artists of the time. A painter of marine scenes and ships, he began exhibiting regularly at the Tauranga Art Gallery from 1966 and at the Auckland Society of Arts and the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts from 1967 and became a full time artist in 1968. He was a finalist in the Benson and Hedges Art Award in 1968. He died in 1998.
