Australian figurative artist Steve Lopes attained a Bachelor of Arts (Fine Arts) from the University of New South Wales in Sydney in 1991 and later continued his studies and worked in London, and New York at the Art Students League. Lopes has exhibited his works in 40 solo shows across Australia, London, and Hong Kong, and his work is held in the National Gallery of Australia, Federal Parliament House Art Collection Canberra, State Library of NSW, Bundanon Collection, Gallipoli Memorial Club, Time Warner Collection New York, and Rolls-Royce London. Lopes also earned recognition for his art by winning the Gallipoli Art Prize in 2018 and the Young Artist Award of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters in London and was a finalist in the Brett Whiteley Travelling Art Scholarship award. He has participated in painting residencies such as Red Gate Gallery in Beijing, Bundanon Trust Studios in New South Wales, Your Friend the Enemy painting project in Gallipoli, Salient: Contemporary Artists at the Western Front, and Yellow Mountain in China and Queenstown, New Zealand through The Nock Art Foundation. Currently, Lopes resides and creates art in New South Wales.
