About Nan Paterson
Nan Paterson was born in Mackay, Queensland in 1923. After school she attended the Brisbane Technical College Art School, and then the National Gallery School in Melbourne. After war service between 1942 and 1945 she resumed her studies in Melbourne, where she met her future husband. After a period living in Holland, she returned to Australia in 1956, finally settling in Queensland in 1968. As a realist expressionist painter using oils and pastels and portraitist, she exhibited in Sydney and Brisbane from 1966 and her work is represented in National Library of Australia, Tweed River Art Gallery and the University of Queensland Art Museum.
