James Morrison was born in 1959 in Papua New Guinea. He moved to Melbourne in 1972 and studied for a Diploma of Fine Art at the Victorian College of the Arts in 1979, and later in 1995-96 for a Postgraduate Diploma in Fine Art at the Victorian College of the Art. His work encompasses painting, drawing and sculpture utilising a variety of media including oil, gesso and natural earth pigments on canvas and papier mache. His first solo show was in Melbourne in 1997 and since then has held shows in Melbourne, Sydney, Cairns, London and Dunedin. He has participated in numerous group exhibitions since 1995. In 1996 he was awarded the National Gallery Womens Association, Post Graduate Encouragement Award Lives. James Morrison lives and works in Melbourne.
