Tim McMonagle was born in 1971 in Auckland, New Zealand and arrived in Australia the same year with his family. He was awarded the Advanced Certificate Art & Design, Western Metropolitan College of TAFE, Melbourne in 1990 and Bachelor of Fine Art, Victorian College of the Arts, The University of Melbourne in 1994. He has held solo exhibitions in Melbourne, Sydney and Perth since 1999, and participated in group exhibitions in Australia, New Zealand and Finland since 2000. His work was exhibited at the Ian Potter Museum of Art, University of Melbourne, in 2005 and he was a finalist in the Archibald prize in 2012.

We have records of art auction sales by Tim McMonagle from 2008 and in total 20 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 12 (60%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $14,400 for The Crack of Dawn 2003 sold by Bonhams & Goodman in November 2009. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2023. Works by Tim McMonagle are held by the Heide Museum of Modern Art, National Gallery of Victoria and a further three major public national galleries (see list below).
