Born in Greece in 1900, James Fardoulys arrived in Australia in 1914. After completing his education, he travelled around Australia with show people, amd then became a taxi driver. A naive artist, he began to paint seriously in the early 1960s after his retirement. He had a solo exhibition in Sydney in 1966 and particpated in a number of group shows. Although he spent most of his life in Queensland, his paintings often depict his memories of Greece. Fardoulys died in Brisbane in 1975.

The highest price recorded for the artist is $13,800 for My Cat Doula 1966 sold by Leonard Joel in June 2015. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2021. Works by James Fardoulys are held by the National Gallery of Australia, Queensland Art Gallery and Art Gallery of NSW.
