Phil Slight was born in New Zealand 1932 and studied art at Canterbury School of Fine Arts, New Zealand. He left New Zealand in 1960, and teaming up with fellow artists, Keith Patterson and Bob Ellis he visited Spain, to pursue a passion for flamenco guitar. As a lecturer in art at Birmingham University, he became an expert on contemporary Spanish ceramics. He is known today in Spain as a leading flamencologist. Has produced recordings of gypsy artists Paco del Gastor Juan del Gastor, Miguel el Funi. As a photographer he documented gypsy flamenco life in the 1960's. He now lives in Spain.
