Teuane Tibbo was born in 1893 in Pago Pago, grew up in Samoa and later lived in Fiji. In 1945 she moved to Auckland with her husband and eight children.. Begining her painting career in 1964 when in her 70's she received encouragement from fellow artists. A naive artist, she held her first solo exhibition in 1964, and exhibited widely until her death in 1984. A retrospective exhibition celebrating her art and life, Keep It in the Heart: The Paintings of Teuane Tibbo was held in Auckland in 2002.
