Born in Christchurch in 1959, William Dunning studied at the University of Canterbury School of Fine Arts from 1980 to 1983 and the National Gallery School, Melbourne in 1984 and 1985. A selection of his works were displayed at the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa in 2001 and at the Tauranga Art Gallery in 2010.
