Born in New South Wales in 1953 Angus Nivison studied at the National Art School and Alexander Mackie College. Known for his abstract landscapes Angus Nivison has exhibited regularly since 1982 and was awarded the 2002 Wynne prize for landscape painting at the Art Gallery of New South Wales. In 2011, Nivison was the winner of the Eutick Memorial Still Life Award at the Coffs Harbour Regional Gallery, and also spent a three-month residency at the Art Gallery of New South Wales Cite Studio in Paris.
