Jackie Kurltjunyintja Giles (born c. 1940) is an Australian Aboriginal artist from the Warakurna community in Western Australia. She is known for her colourful paintings that depict stories and experiences of her life in the desert. Giles was born in the bush near Patjarr, a remote area of Western Australia. She grew up living a traditional life as a hunter-gatherer with her family, moving from place to place depending on the availability of food and water. Giles learned to paint from her mother and grandmother, who were both skilled in the traditional art of painting on rocks and sand. In the 1980s, Giles and her family moved to Warakurna, where she became involved with the Warakurna Artists group. She began painting on canvas and quickly gained recognition for her vibrant and detailed works. Her paintings often depict the bush tucker (food) that she and her family would gather on their travels, as well as the animals and plants of the desert. Giles' style is characterized by its bright colors and intricate patterns, which reflect the natural beauty of the desert landscape. Her works are highly sought after by collectors and have been exhibited in galleries and museums throughout Australia and overseas. Giles' work has been recognized with numerous awards and accolades, including the Western Australian Indigenous Art Award in 2008 and a retrospective exhibition at the National Museum of Australia in 2016.
