Albert Fullwood was born in England in 1863, and studied at the Birmingham School of Art before arriving in Sydney in 1881 where he joined the staff of the Picturesque Atlas of Australasia. He exhibited with the Art Society of NSW and also helped establish the NSW Society of Artists in the mid 1890s. Fullwood played an important part in the formation of the New South Wales Society of Artists. He was official war artist during World War I and returned to Australia in 1920. he was also one of the founders of the Australian Painters and Etchers' Society. He was considered a leading Australian Impressionist, mostly painting in oil on panels.
