Born in New Zealand in 1940, Robert Wright studied under Leslie Campbell in Sydney. A life member of the Central Australian Art Society, he has exhibited widely and has won several art awards, has staged seven solo shows and experienced many facets of the art world from teaching in both life drawing and three dimensional works, to living for a time as a potter. He won his first award, the Peninsula Art Award judged by The Herald art Critic Alan McCulloch at the age of 14 years against many adult entries. He has also won two Caltex art awards, and is five times winner of the GMH award, has won the Northern Territory Peko Wallsend Award and jointly the Northern Territory Advocate Religious Art Award.
