Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland in 1962, Jon Campbell was awarded Bachelor of Arts (Fine Arts), Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, in 1982 Melbourne and a Graduate Diploma of Painting, Victorian College of the Arts, Melbourne in 1985. A contemporary painter, his first solo show was in Melbourne in 1986 and he has exhibited there and in Sydney as well as in Italy, the UK, Japan, New Zealand, Germany and France. In 1987 Jon Campbell won the 1987 Murdoch Travelling Fellowship and in 2012,the Basil Sellers Art Prize, Ian Potter Museum of Art, University of Melbourne. He has been awarded numerous residencies within Australia and in France, the USA and Italy.

We have records of art auction sales by Jon Campbell from 1995 and in total 54 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 34 (63%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $26,400 for Texas sold by Shapiro Auctioneers in July 2021. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2022. Works by Jon Campbell are held by the Art Gallery of NSW, National Gallery of Victoria and a further eight major public national galleries (see list below).
