Born in Kunmunya, W. A. in 1925. He is known to have painted on bark in the 1970s and from around the 1990s, Mowaljarlai produced many paintings on canvas and drawings recording the evolution of Ngarinyin law from Creation Time to the present. In 2016 the Berndt Museum at the University of Western Australia in Perth mounted a comprehensive exhibition of the life and work of David Banggal Mowaljarlai, at the Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery.
