Born in Hobart in 1962, Tom Alberts moved to Perth with in 1970. He completed his Bachelor of Fine Art Studies at Curtin University (previously WAIT) in 1983. In late 1990 the artist moved to Melbourne. Principally a portraitist and figure artist working in oil, charcoal and pastel, he has held 20 solo exhibitions between 1988 and 2020 in Perth Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane and participated in numerous group exhibitions. Amongst his recent awards and prizes are the Rome Studio Residency, Australia Council for the Arts in 1999, Winner of the 2002 Outback Art Award, Broken Hill Art Gallery, Broken Hill, and First Prize, Rick Amor Self Portrait Prize, Montsalvat, Victoria. He has received 4 portrait commissions from the University of Melbourne as well as commissions from Historic Memorials Collection, Parliament House, Canberra and the Royal Melbourne Children’s Hospital. He was awarded the Australia Council for the Arts Rome Studio Residency in 1999.
