About Beatrix (Helen Beatrix) Colquhoun
Born in London in 1862, Beatrix Colquhoun (nee Hoile) studied art in Paris and at the National Gallery School from 1884 to 1891 after her family's move to Melbourne. She and her husband, art critic and painter Alexander Colquhoun became 'plein air' painters, living in the outskirts of Melbourne. Beatrix was a member of the Melbourne Society of Women Painters and Sculptors.
