Born in Sale, Victoria in 1940, Geoff La Gerche studied at the Caulfield Institute of Technology and in London. A painter, printmaker and teacher, he has lectured at the Caulfield Institute of Technology and, from 1978, was the president of the Print Council of Australia. He held his first solo show in 1972 and has since held over 35 solo exhibitions. He has been a finalist in the Art Gallery of New South Wales Archibald Prize in 1976 and 1978. He is best known for his photo realism and large portrait works.
We have records of art auction sales by Geoff La Gerche from 1986 and in total 70 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 47 (67%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $13,500 for Bennelong Restaurant 1978 sold by Leonard Joel in February 2022. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2023. Works by Geoff La Gerche are held by the Ian Potter Museum of Art, Heide Museum of Modern Art and a further five major public national galleries (see list below).
