Born in Sydney in 1942, after schooling John Caldwell worked on the land in Queensland for 10 years and then travelled to to Britain, Ireland and Europe, returning to Sydney in 1972. He then completed an honours degree in English Literature at the University of New South Wales c1977. Since then he has worked full time as an artist, principally a landscape watercolourist. He is a member of the Royal Art Society and the Watercolour Institute he has exhibited widely.
