Rhys Lee was born in 1975 in Brisbane and was awarded a Bachelor of Visual Arts, Graphic Design from the Queensland College of Art in 1997. Working with oil and acrylic on canvas, he creates ethereal figurative luminescent shapes. He has held solo exhibitions since 2000 in Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Sydney and internationally in New York, Germany, Paris and New Zealand. He has participated in group exhibitions in public galleries including the Heide Museum of Modern Art, Melbourne, in 2019, The Ian Potter Museum, Melbourne in 2015 and the Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery in 2001. He has also had works accepted for inclusion in the Archibald Prize at the Art Gallery of New South Wales in 2012, The University of Queensland National Artist’s Self Portrait Prize in 2009, the Doug Moran Prize at the State Library of New South Wales in 2009, and participated in group shows in commercial galleries in the USA, UK, Germany, France, Belgium and the Netherlands. Rhys Lee lives and works in Melbourne.
