Born in Switzerland in 1927, Robert Ulmann studied in Zurich, and travelled through north and south America and the South Pacific before arriving in Australia in 1970. A sculptor and natural history artist, he taught experimental art in the Northern Territory until 1972. His watercolours of wildlife have been exhibited from 1950, and he built a memorial for Fletcher Jones in Warrnambool, Victoria in 1977. Ulmann received prizes for his watercolours by the Society of Wildlife Artists in Melbourne.
