Born in New Zealand in 1942, Ion Brown studied at King Edward Technican College, Dunedin. An impressionist landscape painter he was an official artist to the New Zealand Army from 1987 to 1997 recording New Zealand's military history. He exhibited at the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts in 1971.
